Frequently Asked Questions:

Where will the T.H.I.S. Buddhist Film Festival 2009 be held?

The Thus Have I Seen Buddhist Film Festival 2009 will be held at the Lido Cinema located at Shaw Centre, 1 Scotts Road, Singapore 228208. The nearest MRT station is Orchard.

Why T.H.I.S.?

T.H.I.S. stands for Thus Have I Seen. This is a play on the commonly recited first verse in many Buddhist sutra - Thus have I heard.

Will you have extra screenings if some sessions are sold out?

As we have to book the theatre halls in advance, it would require negotiations with the theatre operators if we want to commence extra runs of popular films. It is advisable to purchase tickets as soon as possible to avoid disappointments.

Are there special appearances by directors or actors in these films?

Unfortunately, due to budget constraints, we have no plans to bring in the directors or actors involved in the selected films.

Your ticket prices are higher than normal ticket prices in Singapore.

Unlike the commercial screening of movies, we are bringing in the films for only one screening per film. Thus, our costs per film are much higher. At $10 per film, we are incurring higher costs per seat and had to seek sponsorship to cover the remaining costs of organising the film festival.

Is the film festival your only project?

The T.H.I.S. Buddhist Film Festival is our major project for 2009 but we had been involved in other projects as well. Please visit www.dharmainaction.net for more information.

So what happens after this film festival?

It is our intention to have a Buddhist Film Festival once every two years to showcase Buddhist cultures and values. However, organising a film festival requires a lot of resources, both in terms of manpower and financial. We will evaluate the possibility of the next film festival after September 2009.

Can I contact anyone to discuss my ideas?

We welcome collaborations with engaged Buddhists. Please email info (at) thisfilmfest.com so that we can follow up with you.

I would like to support the festival. How can I help?

Please email info (at) thisfilmfest.com so that we can follow up with you.

May I know where can I buy the tickets?

Tickets for the festival are available through SISTIC from 7 July 2009 onwards.

How much are you selling per ticket?

Ticket price for all films is $10, except for the opening film, 一轮明月 - Yi Lun Ming Yue which is priced at $15.
